About the Gallery Folders

Welcome to Physical vs Mental!
Please consider the following guidelines as you submit to the group gallery.

Featured
This gallery folder is off-limits to members. Contributors & high admins can add pieces to this folder. It is a place for pieces that contain aspects of many different conditions or folder subjects, or are exceptional portrayals of a condition.

Dreams
Dreams show the workings of our mental Selves in an interesting format. This folder is dedicated to the dreams we experience while waking or sleeping. Apparitions, illusions, hallucinations, nightmares, and sleeping visions are all welcome here. Works that employ a dream-like imagery may also be placed here.

Self-Image
This folder includes both positive and negative portrayals of self-image, self-esteem, and self-value. It also encompasses mental and eating disorders that relate to self- and body-image, including, but not limited to Anorexia, Binge Eating, Bulimia, Compulsive Overeating, Exercise Bulimia, Muscle Dysmorphia, Orthorexia (excessive dieting or health-eating), Pica (appetite for non-nutritive substances), and Polyphagia (excessive hunger). Other welcome topics are Self-esteem, Self-value, Positive body image, Mental perception of one's body / self, and Autobiography.

Eating Disorders can be placed in the "Self-Image" folder. Please do not group "sadness/unhappiness" with "depression;" there is a folder for "Anger and Sadness." Thank you.

Anger and Sadness
This folder includes general anger or sadness by any cause, expressed in any way.

Physical Pain and Abuse
This folder includes all ranges of physical pain, including physical and sexual abuse.
Verbal abuse related pieces should be placed in a different folder.

Relationships
This folder describes all kinds of interactions with other people, including romantic relationships, family relationships, friendships, sexual relationships, interactions with strangers, positive strengthening relationships, negative relationships, general love and admiration, and yearning for a relationship.

Discrimination
Discrimination is the treatment or consideration of a person based on the group, class, or category to which that person belongs rather than on their individual merit. This folder includes, but is not limited to, discrimination based on age, disability, employment, financial situation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information / appearances, national origin, pregnancy, race / colour / ethnicity, religion / beliefs, sex, sexual orientation, and size.

Hope and Coping
This folder includes, but is not limited to, methods of coping such as addiction to alcohol and drugs, addiction to harmful practices, cutting and self-harm, heavily focusing on other (positive or negative) activities, losing control in other areas of life, or successfully ending harmful practices. Group Info

Welcome to Physical vs Mental, a group dedicated to expressing all of our varied interactions between our minds and bodies. This is a place where you can express yourself.

Purpose: to strengthen the community by expressing our weaknesses.

"Physical vs Mental represents the constant battle in our minds, between where we stand mentally and where we stand physically. I created this group because I wish to share my story and hope to hear yours."

Hey Members!
I've just updated this group to get it all up and running strong again.

Updates include:

New folders: New folder titles and detailed descriptions on the folder pages about what should be submitted to each folder. A shortened version of this description is also available on the main page now! The folders were condensed to (hopefully) make more sense and be less cluttering.

New submission guidelines: Members cannot submit to "Featured" anymore. I've been trying to get you guys to all submit to the correct folders and all I've gotten is a large mess in the Featured folder. I cleaned it all out except a couple pieces that cannot be categorized cleanly, and I'll just be hand selecting a few pieces once in a while to add to the Featured. Otherwise, submit to the correct folders! Submission guidelines are available on the main page as well as on the individual folder pages.

I hope you all enjoy these changes! If there's anything you'd like me to add or change around, just let me know and I'll be flexible for you. Thank you all so much for contributing!

Hey all! I don't know if anyone else has seen it yet, but after recently seeing the movie 'Tangled', I was really struck by it's potential importance in shedding light on emotional abuse. This fellow wrote a better article on it than I could have: [link]
